The Sub/Conscious Meanderings of a Design Philandros

I’ve been FFFFound!

At the close of a long day at work, my co-worker Brad turned to me and said, “You’ve been ffffound!”. To my disbelief, I saw the logo concept I had designed for the New York Public Library staring back at me from his computer screen.

Now for the explanation: As designers, we often look for inspiration as we do our work. At Hint, this has become an essential element of how we keep up with design trends. Christian (the boss) likes mantras and one of his is Good Design In, Good Design Out—referring to necessity of the “recharge” or inspiration to continue doing good design. ffffound.com is one site that we refer to fairly regularly and it’s both flattering and terrifying that my work has now made it on to the site.

This ought to provide me with the sufficient motivation to finish my website. So…

Arlo, I really enjoyed ffffound.com but I am not sure which is your image. What is the offset for your image?

It was created by FormFiftyFive as an inspiration resource. In order to contribute to the blog, you have to be invited. (I haven’t yet) I posted the NYPL logo on another blog and someone liked it enough to post it on ffffound. Hope that answers the questions.

I have tons of other websites I look at for inspiration. ffffound is just one of them.

I spent a good hour this morning looking at the images. Some of them really appeal to me and others don’t. I particularly the drawings that look like watercolor over black ink drawings. Color is my thing. Sometimes, I enjoy spreading color on a canvas just for the sake of watching the colors mix and blend. I once had a friend offer to buy one from me. I should have let him pay me, but I just gave him the painting. I can’t help wonder where that painting is today.
