The Sub/Conscious Meanderings of a Design Philandros

Broken Promise

I swore I’d never do it—that I’d never need to do it. But I did…and I liked it. There’s something immediately tangible about programming that design doesn’t seem to have, although technically web development falls under the graphic design discipline. Plus there’s the fulfillment of my obsession with detail and organization. I wrote my new website from scratch […]

The Perfect Christmas Gift

This beautiful home has been added to the wish list. All you rich people who have money to throw around, please send some my way. .

214 Days Later

Unfortunately this is not a report of some debilitating disease from a lab test gone bad that spreads through the population like wildfire, turning people into zombies. This is just me taking account of my inability to write a blog post. Kinda pathetic really. But it’s a turning point, even though it’s taken me a few days shy of a month […]

I’ve been FFFFound!

At the close of a long day at work, my co-worker Brad turned to me and said, “You’ve been ffffound!”. To my disbelief, I saw the logo concept I had designed for the New York Public Library staring back at me from his computer screen. Now for the explanation: As designers, we often look for inspiration as we do […]

Marua Got Fat

After a brief hiatus from all things school-related, I’m starting to wrap up my BFA. The newest development is that Marua got fat. Please don’t judge her. Fat women are beautiful, too. I’m also working on the italic, too. So that should be posted pretty soon. (Hopefully).

A Breath

After gasping for air for the last few days, running around trying to tie up lose ends on this project and that test, it was immensely refreshing to walk out of my last final, pause for a moment, and take a deep breath. I was the first to finish the final in my Business Management class. I took a refreshing […]

Slow Motion

The pace of my life has significantly decreased within the last week. I have two more finals to take and my BFA to finish, but most everything else has tapered to a close. I’ll hopefully be updating my website within the next couple weeks with more work. I might be undertaking an overhaul of my blog also, but […]

Daily Documentary

My fame as a type designer has begun. Okay, not really, but I was asked to participâté in a very interesting project that highlights creatives in the Salt Lake area. Dallas Graham, the owner of Montage Creative has started a personal project that delves into the depths of individuals artistic endeavors—as deep as you can get in 45 minutes. […]

Upper– and Lower-case complete (for the most part)

I spent most of the weekend working over the uppercase and finessed a little on the lowercase. I’m excited about the progress but almost overwhelmed by the sheer amount of work I still have to complete in the next three weeks. So here goes the little engine that could. I think I can.

Michael Beirut on Typography

In the most recent issue of The Atlantic, there’s an interesting article about typography. I never thought that the topic of typography would be so widely discussed among non-designers, but with the prevalence of the do-it-yourself mentality that has software developers and Martha Stewart raking in the dough, it’s probably about time.
