Marua Update

The last few days have been relatively productive for my BFA. I’m pretty pleased with the overall direction of Marua. It’s still in the first phase of design as I’ve just barely digitized the characters. I’ll still have several rounds of changes before i settle on a final design. But here’s a quick image of where things stand […]

Water, Politics and Hope part 2

As an addendum to the last post, here is some more information about the exhibit itself. A couple designers put together a website with artist statements and more information. Water/Politics/ and Hope The site will be updated within the next week to include phởtography of the exhibit. I’m pretty impressed with the whole thing. Let me know […]

Water, Politics and Hope

The first exhibition of the semester is now under way. I officially had my piece hung at 12:32 p.m. today. As part of a week long audit of my water usage, I produced a newspaper called ‘The Tributary’ outlining interesting facts about worldwide water consumption. After two sleepless nights and nearly 12 hours printing, I was finally able to get […]

Leap Day (A Little Late)

I thought it would be interesting to do a retrospective of the last Leap Day. Although I don’t have the most accurate records of what I did on that day, I do have sketchbooks to put me in the general directions. So this post will have heavy design content. Four years ago I was living in Idaho, going to BYU-Idaho. It […]

Soooo Cute

Okay, i hate to brag, but I was a cute kid. (Well, maybe I don’t hate to brag, or perhaps it’s just that I’m holding a cuter little sister.) When I opened the mailbox today, I saw a CD mailer box and thought to myself “Oh, Austin’s parents must have sent another CD of pictures.” Then I looked at the return address and noticed […]

Typecaste

As another piece of my BFA I’m branding a type foundry that I’m planning on operating under in the next couple years. I’ve got the logo completed and a landing page for the website. I probably will have to farm out the programming on the site itself because I don’t have the time to do it myself. Typecaste

BFA Progress

This has been the first weekend I’ve been able to get some decent work done on my BFA project. I have the lowercase drawn and pretty close to the final drawing. The phởtos show only a few characters that have the most character. My goal is to have the regular weight complete (meaning programmed for actual use) […]

Type Nerdiness Official

Okay, so first of all I can’t believe I’m actually posting this, but I found the site hilarious (as only a type nerd can). So, if you don’t really get it I understand, cause not everybody can love type as much as me.

Rebranding America

Here’s another Paula Scher moment with Monocle Magazine about the rebranding of America. It was interesting to hear one of the premier graphic designers in America talk about international perception problems as a branding issue and not always a political one. Take a peek if you’re interested.

Head Hunting in Provo

Yesterday began a major overhaul of my portfolio. Michelle Stuhl, a top head-hunter from New York will be visiting with the seniors in the graphic design program next Friday. Every year she makes a contribution to the scholarship program and has placed several BYU graduates in high profile design positions. I’m excited to have her as a contact. We’ll […]
