Mira and The Boy
This week has brought two new additions to the household. Mira and The Boy (yet to be named) are sugar gliders and happen to be the cutest little animals ever. Austin and I adopted them from a friend who couldn’t take care of them. Just thought I’d post a couple pictures.
Flogging a Dead Horse
Seems a brutal title for a new post, but the inspiration was drawn from a comment on the previous post. As the semester has already started, my time gets spread pretty thin. I’m registered for 17 credits (which, in the Graphic Design program, equates more closely to 20) in my last semester. So far the load has live […]
Finally a Live Website
It’s 3:11 a.m. and I just finished posting the new site at www.arlovance.com. I’ve neglected most of the projects I should have been working on to get it where it is now. With the loss of all my files, it might take a little while to get everything up and running, but for now, this is a major step […]
iPod Brings Death Toll to Over 100,000
Okay, so there really weren’t any deaths; almost a suicide though. Over the Thanksgiving holiday, my iPod decided it was going to fail, and take all of my most important documents with it. Casualties are still being discovered, but so far all of my school documents from this semester, my fonts, my image collections, my research […]
Paula Scher on Typography
I found this great little clip by Hillman Curtis on Paula Scher. She talks about type as image and idea generation. Definitely an inspiration of mine.
Smart Decisions
Enough time has lapsed since I decided to take the job with Hint for me to know that it was a smart decision. Since I’ve started it’s been unbelievable what kind of accounts I have been working on. American Eagle has probably been the largest, with work on a new credit card launch coming this fall as well as […]
Simpsonified
As part of my goal to take time and enjoy, I created this amazingly lifelike representation of myself at the Simpson’s movie site.Enjoy.
A Bigger Hint
After working for less than a week, things at Hint are going swimmingly well. We just got news of being published in the next Type Directors Club annual for the AIGA Design M/W Poster. Also we have been working on a new project for American Eagle Outfitters, which has allowed for some engaging creative expression. I am hoping […]
A Hint of Change
As time goes by, change inevitably gets chosen or forced upon everyone. A recent series of events seems to be a combination of the two. At the end of April, I received an email from a faculty member at BYU suggesting that a design firm in Salt Lake needed a new designer or an intern. I responded to the email, thinking it […]
