After the launch of my new portfolio website, I decided I should customize my blog to have a more seamless interaction with it. Well, hundreds of hours later trying to create a WordPress theme from scratch, I’ve launched the new look—which still needs a lot of work. I’ll be updating old posts so they fit within the new framework better, but it might take some time. Overall I’m really pleased with the new look. Everybody I show it to says “It’s very you.”, which I’m hoping is a good thing.

Consistency within a brand takes a great deal of effort, especially when it’s representing an individual that is often characterized as an indecisive perfectionist.

Next up, getting the Typecaste identity finished and launching the website. Although I’m optimistic, I also know that working for myself is more difficult than the most demanding client.

Daphne finally gets an italic

It’s been a long time coming, but Daphne is finally getting an italic. I’ve been making adjustments to the roman and finally had time to work out a preliminary design for the italic. It’s still really rough, but worth posting about.

At the portfolio review this last week, a friend of mine asked me to try and post a little more often regarding typeface design to catalogue my process, so periodically I hope to update with a new pdf of each of the styles I’m currently developing. Overall I’m happy with the flavor, but need to work out the details.

Weekend Serif

Having a long weekend always does wonders for projects that, during a normal work week, I have no time for. This weekend I was able to get a very preliminary version of a serif I’ve been stewing about for quite some time. It’s a sharp Baskerville, which is fairly well-known for its curves. There are still a lot of tweaks to make, but overall I’m pretty happy with the initial direction.

Now that school is wrapping up, I decided to redesign the blog. I’m now using WordPress, which I like much better already. I imagine that things will continue to be updated and changed just to finesse what’s here, but I’m pretty happy with how things are arranged. Please let me know your thoughts on the changes.
