With the unified look of my blog and website, I’m a little more motivated to actually post more content. Swipe or scrap is a huge part of how I keep myself inspired. I have almost 20 gigs of images I swipe from various websites and blogs categorized to help me find quick inspiration for new projects. This resources also helps clients see things they relate to which makes the design process more enjoyable for them.

So, every Saturday I’ll pull something from my swipe folders and post it. Hope you enjoy.

Daphne finally gets an italic

It’s been a long time coming, but Daphne is finally getting an italic. I’ve been making adjustments to the roman and finally had time to work out a preliminary design for the italic. It’s still really rough, but worth posting about.

At the portfolio review this last week, a friend of mine asked me to try and post a little more often regarding typeface design to catalogue my process, so periodically I hope to update with a new pdf of each of the styles I’m currently developing. Overall I’m happy with the flavor, but need to work out the details.

Weekend Serif

Having a long weekend always does wonders for projects that, during a normal work week, I have no time for. This weekend I was able to get a very preliminary version of a serif I’ve been stewing about for quite some time. It’s a sharp Baskerville, which is fairly well-known for its curves. There are still a lot of tweaks to make, but overall I’m pretty happy with the initial direction.

Exhibitionism

The time is rapidly approaching for me to show my stuff. Daphne: Unreciprocated Love is finally scheduled to hang at the BYU Harris Fine Arts Center at the end of October. Now the time crunch begins. Knowing how I respond to tight deadlines I’m hoping that this will motivate me to get more done than what seems humanly possible. I’ve still to set the kerning, design two posters and the specimen book, then get it printed and hung. I’m hoping to have invitations ready to go out by next week.
